Alma Nungarrayi Granites

Alma Nungarrayi Granites, born 1955, is a Warlpiri woman who lives and works at Yuendumu, about 300km North-West of Alice Springs on the edge of the Tanami Desert.

Alma‘s father was Paddy Japaljarri Sims and her mother was Bessie Nakamarra Sims, founders of the contemporary Aboriginal Art Movement. Alma‘s father was the last of the Japaljarri‘s who knew all of the songs and ceremony for „Seven Sisters Dreaming“ and „Milky Way Dreaming“.

Alma started painting in 1987 and is well known for her majestically renderings of the night sky. She became custodian of the “Seven Sisters Dreaming“. Her work has been successfully placed in the Holmes a Court Collection, the Burkhardt Felder Museum of Switzerland and the ARTCOL Collection of Seattle. Ihre Arbeit wurde erfolgreich in der Holmes á Court Sammlung, dem Burkhardt Felder Museum in der Schweiz und der ARTCOL Sammlung in Seattle ausgestellt.
