In her work, Irene explores Kutini Country, the rainforest that surrounds her home at Lockhart River. Being situated between a lowland rain forest and a spectacular beach, the environment around Irene has greatly influenced her artistic practice – bursts of vibrant colour that appear to leap off the painting undoubtedly reflect the beautiful tropical landscape.

Irene Namok’s desire to express the strong influences of her traditional culture and values in the world is implied in her sublime way of painting. Looking above, looking inside not only reflects the physical act of looking at the country, but also knowing the country in heart and spirit.
