Sally Gabori began painting in 2005 at the Mornington Island Art. Her immediate love of paint and the full spectrum of colour offered to her triggered an outpouring of ideas including depicting her country and her ancestral stories.
Whilst her works are immediately recognized as abstraction, her fascination with colour seems as significant as the content itself. In her works the country, the colour and the mindseye combine to the intimate sense of who Sally Gabori is and where she is from. „This is my country on Bentinck Island. It is a mangrove swamp.“ (Sally Gabori).
